Maricultured sps thread

There are a lot of maricultured vs aquacultured vs wild caught colonies threads out there but I am curious about maricultured colonies in paticular (and possibly wild if ya got them). I know the survivability isnt as good as the tried and true bulletproof aquacultures and it is more of a gamble buying maricultured and wild colonies.

Anyways, post up some befores and afters of your maricultured colonies (and or wilds) from recieving them and the now photos...I wanna see those gambles that payed off!

I import probably 80 maricultured colonies at a time to sell and cherry pick my favorites. Tomorrow I'll get some pictures for you

LOL no they're just corals, thrive in good conditions like any Acropora. They don't "know" where they're from, no?

Maricultures typically dont survive from instantly being cut/ being tortured the day they are imported and i dont blame them lol. Other then pest being a priority thats about it

I believe the constant stress of them getting shipped and chopped is what makes the mortality rate so high. IMO if a vendor or wholesaler gives them enough time to adjust to none nsw conditions before chopping or selling, then the survivability increases

Yeah but if you don't cut them immediately you can get 95+% survivability

Awesome, thats what i wanted to know...would love to see some pics. Setting up a decent system of system of stock tanks, mostly for this reason, cant wait to see some pics.

I'll grab some picture of the system later today, pretty busy. Basically a few 4'x4' flood trays plumbed together to get 1200g

I think the stress from being shipped multiple times and held short term in holding tanks is one main factor to the death rate. It varies between what loops the corals go through.
The other thing is a handful of acros we still don't understand how to get to thrive in aquariums, at least consistently. I think people buy these unknowingly and label all maricultures as corals that die easily.

Good points here already! I've not lost a maricultured in quite a while. When I first started Sps, almost all my maricultured would crash and burn! Several years into the hobby, thus stable and established system the only ones that die are the ones that arrive STNing or fresh cut maricultured frags.....likely a chop shop style.

Though mariculture survive, in my experience, take months to truly establish and adjust. You can't beat the hardiness and acclimated frags from vendors on this site. For example UC! There are many more that someday soon I will purchase from like Battle too!

Buying maricultured is a bit of a gamble with color too. I've seen and had many acros morph significantly! Sometimes this is good, sometimes I end up with another green acro! Not to mention, coloring up sometimes takes months!

Maricultured corals are very un-forgiving if the 3 mains aren't in check. I've had a 50/50 success rate with them. De sure to get from reputable dealer/member. JME
