I've read that these guys will essentially eat any fish it can fit inside its mouth. Planning a new 180 gal build and would love to keep one, but I'm not sure what size fish start to be at risk of being eaten. Any thoughts would be very helpful!

Ive had mine 4 years and it is in with a firefish goby and cleaner wrasse and could not care less about them. Most fish sooner or later potentially will eat a fish that will fit in its mouth but betta i would not worry about

Beautify fish! Really appreciate the insight. Has yours transitioned to aquarium life well? My only other concern is getting it on to prepared foods like pellets for when I am out of town

Very well. They are knowingly bashful and often come out for food and hide again but very peaceful otherwise

They have small mouths and grow slowly.
Do either of yours eat pellets? That would be ideal if possible for when I'm out of town. It seems like they can be hard to get to adjust to prepared foods

It’s if it goes past it’s face

Pellets like on a auto feeder, very unlikely but you could try a little experiment. 1st you have to get them to take the pellets to start with, you can try target feeding them by putting the pellets in your pipette/baster or dropping them in their cave with hemo's. Maybe if they actually start eating them and by observing the other fish, they may. Betta's actually can fast for a while, so also just plan to fatten them up before you leave. Betta's do well on a gorge/fast diet like some other predatory fish, so a few days without eating is really no big deal.
