I am a new reefer and in the process of planning all my equipment. I am currently looking over sumps and I found this one that seems to have just about everything you could desire on a sump. I really like that I can have a separate flow rate in the refugium compartment but still keep the correct turnover rate for the tank going through the rest of the sump. My DT is going to be a 75 gallon stock tank that I have in storage. I plan to use a 16" shadowbox overflow with a bean animal style system. I am looking at the 36" sump here:

Has anyone here used one before or possibly have any pros or cons that I might not be considering for this sump?
One thing I am concerned about and I need to get over to storage to check is whether the 18" wide measurement will fit under the stock stand that I have.

Seen them in person and they are nice. I just am not a fan of the filter sock area

The difference between these two is that with the triton sump you dont have the option of filter socks and your flow through the refugium is based on the total tank turnover instead of being independent on what's best for nutrient uptake.

I have seen people say the dont like filter socks, could you elaborate more for me what you dislike about them or how they are used on this model? I am still learning and dont want to waste money on bad parts.

7” sock take a ton of space. I went with trigger

I can shift between multiple 4” socks, baffle plate or coarse sponge

What’s your plan for the last chamber?

You have the emerald style models with the switching plates?

The last chamber would initially be an ATO container but eventually become a refugium.

If I could do it over again I’d go with the sapphire.

I thought the sapphire and emerald are literally the exact same except for the color of the acrylic

Yes but I am a nerd about matching things. Changed my pumps, reactors and skimmer and it is driving me crazy

Sorry, you are right. Was going to post about Saphire 34, but chose wrong one. Another option to possibly look into is getting sump baffle kit, and standard aquarium, and putting it all together.

Something like this for example: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Triton-Refugium-baffle-kit-40-Gallon-breeder/163129710639

Different sizes and models available as well.

I have the Sapphire 34 for my 185gl & it works great, I upgraded from the Ruby 30 which was also good but does not have the option to use socks or a sponge. For the ATO I have the Ruby 5gl tank.
