This is something you don’t see often. Mostly parasitic copepods.

wow those are cool not for the fish, we used to wade through the ponds and let the leaches attach to your legs and then use them for fishing

I was doing some fish sampling in Queens last year an pulled in a scup that was covered in a darker colored species of marine leech. They are pretty gross.
