So I got this idea from Bealsabob a long time ago. I was watching a reef builders video last week on how to convert freshwater mollies to saltwater and it didn't look to involved. Given that damsels are going for $12 at swf.com I decided some cheap black mollies would be nice. I bought 8 on Monday and have slowly brought up the salinity. Was getting ready to put them in my acclimation box hanging on my display tank when I noticed four little black spec. I just remembered they are live bearers. Wahoo! I've feed them some live baby brine and they attacked. Should I put the babies in the sump or would they have a better chance staying with the herd?

If you put them in with the rest of your fish the babies would probably be just little snacks.

That's what I was thinking. Didn't know if it would help to put a few of the adults in the sump as well. Just dropped some live brines in the bucket. They're pretty aggressive eaters. Gonna give them a few days in the bucket and add to the sump.

Update on Mollies. Had one killed by my orange shoulder tang on first day. Found one floating yesterday. Four still visible, two missing in action. They don't or didn't school like I thought they would.

mollies prefer low flow, they don't tend to do well in reef setups due to high flow. i have a trio in a peninsula reef with low flow and they do great.

I underestimated the viciousness of my orange shoulder tang... He has picked them off slowly. I pulled three of them and put them in a hospital tank. Unfortunately the heater wasn't working and it got cold overnight for the first time this year. They didn't make it. Got a lone survivor still in the display. So far none of the existing residents are paying him any attention.
