Thanks Bill, will be more than happy to talk with you. You have some knowledge that will help with my algae, especially about fraging.

Here is a picture of the 40g.

A bit dirty and needs a little water. The right power head is a Hydor 750 which is running, the left power head is a Maxi-Jet but is switched off. Should remove it but I run it every so often just to stir things up a bit.

It looks deep, but it underlates in the center somewhat. When the sand storm was in full swing, the sand got moved towards the front more from power head. I would estimate about 3 inches would be the depth when leveled out. It is 60 pounds of sand in a 40g. Do you think that is too much?

I don't think its too deep, but the deeper you go, the more you have to worry about stirring up the lower part of your sand bed due to the bacteria's deep that you don't want coming out. It can cause a tank to crash if the deep areas are stirred up.

Nice macro algae tank. I have my 60gallon refuge setup with macro algae as well nice to see a fellow macro algae fan.

I've always had the mindset to despise algae growth but, that's awesome. Good work man.
