i have a new build reefer 750xxl wanted to put some media pure the 8x8x4 block how many would i get i wil not be doing a refugium with this build

for reducing nitrates im goin with the triton method for this build without the refugium

I run 3 big blocks in a 260g frag system and 3 in a 140 DT. They've worked for me the last four years.

In the interest of disclosure... you might want to read this thread though...

What do you want it to accomplish? I personally would not use any.

Why would you not use it? Do you not think it works at reducing nitrate and phosphate. Are you concerned with leaching of Aluminum.

ive had it before but in a smaller tank and was told it was to much so not sure how much to put obvisouly i wanna try and run a low nutrient system but not strip it completly of everything

only live rock in the system are a few small pieces added (after the tank had been up for over a year) that had shrooms or mini max nems I purchased.

oh ok i have about 200lbs live rock along with live sand so how many woud you recommend?

sp1187 by u running 5 do u have to add nitrates nad phospahtes in your system?

I feed 3 cubes frozen + fish eggs daily & benepets twice weekly. I don't use a skimmer. SURF4X ATS.
And I don't keep acros. softies, gorgonia, sun corals, blastos & a few monti's.

i have a huge skimmer plan on keep alot of fish this will be a sps dominant tank thnks for the help

I would not assume nitrate is going to need to be reduced, and if it is later determined to be the case, I’d use a different method like growing algae or organic carbon dosing that have benefits the media lacks, like exporting phosphate too or producing bacteria as good for filter feeders.

I am also concerned about the aluminum. That seems to sometimes be an issue and sometimes not. I’m not sure why.

gonna go with 2 for now and see where that takes me can always add more if anything thnks to everyone for the feedaback and advice

This advice is coming from someone with 768 cubic inches of MP Block running for 2-4 years: The case for MP Block is, in my opinion, strong in the following two cases:

a) A minimal aquascape (not enough rock in display)
b) A frag system without rock.

Aside from those two scenarios, I gotta go with @Randy Holmes-Farley. There are other nitrate management methods that are easier to dial in and bring other bacterial & coral nutrition benefits.

We are all just living and learning. Have fun!

I feel like I have a lot of rock about 200lbs being that I plan on doin sps with alot of fish and don’t want a Refugium wanted 2 be safe
