So yesterday morning my beautiful kole tang died of velvet. I have never seeen velvet in person nor do I know how it's life cycle works. I identified it as velvet for how fast my Kole Tang died of it and the dust like appearance on him while alive. He was also very reclusive and seemed sensitive to light.
In QT, I have a pair of blood orange clownfish, a yellow tang, lawnmower blenny and a splendid dottyback.
I took out all my fish and put them in my QT tank I have running 24/7 for situations like this. I am running copper in the QT tank as of yesterday. I am going to have a fallow period of 7 weeks, one of my questions is if that's long enough? or maybe a 10 week period?
I have questions about my main display, it's a 90 gallon system with cleaner shrimp, snails, starfish and other inverts. How do I keep them alive during this period?
Will I have live bacteria die off due to the lack of ammonia to be broken down to nitrates?
Will my copepod popluation suffer?
Now in QT, My spendid dottyback has only been in there a night, this morning he is breathing very heavy and does strokes of upside down swimming. Mostly now he is laying upside down breathing very heavily. No other fish show signs of stress apart from the dottyback. Seems like he won't make it. What could of caused this?
What can I feed my lawnmower blenny? I have never seen him take any type food, only picks at the rocks, what can I feed him during this process?
Apart from velvet, I have never dealt with any parasites or flukes of any kind. I QT all my fish for 6 weeks EXCEPT for my kole and yellow tang, which was for 3 weeks. I got a little too excited with them since I was going I have company over and wanted them to be seen in the display. I screwed up I know, I learned my lesson. Anyways, I appreciate all the help in advance and thank you for reading!
