I saw this really nice clown tang at my local fish store but I wanted to wait and see if it would die of marine velvet or ich.How long does it take for marine velvet to kill a fish?

The store says they buy the fish already QT.But need to know how long it takes for marine velvet to kill the fish because if I come back in like one week and it still alive does it mean its marine velvet/ick free?

Short answer is no. You should still QT the fish as the constant inflow of new fish at the store could expose the fish at any given point.

Looking at your previous posts, I think others have already shared QT recommendations. And with a $10,000 coral collection, I wouldn't want to take any risks.

Unless you QT the fish or a trusted friend does you need to assume all fish carry velvet, etc. you might be ok for a few fish but as soon as you drop in a fish with velvet, ich, brook, etc you’ll possibly be starting over.

Quick question Can you even QT a clown tang in copper because some people say that they can't touch copper.

Should be the Acanthurus genus and will be fine in Cheleted copper such as Copper Power. Just ramp up the level to 1.75 ppm over 48hours and use a Hanna checker to keep it in therapeutic range.
