Do snails and crabs get marine velvet? If they have been in a tank with velvet, can they transfer it to another tank?

I believe if I remember correctly inverts like crabs and snails cannot get it however They can carry it just from being in the same water. With something like crabs and snails I wouldn't even risk it at all as marine velvet is so deadly and spreads so fast. If you have more questions do a general search on the topic through google. Good luck!

From what I understand, they don't "get" velvet but, in reality, anything wet could carry it although the possibility is probably very low.

thank you. I am in a panic now. Lost all fish in 120 gallon within 24 hours. After backtracking notes, fish behavior and appearance, I truly believe marine velvet, I scooped shrimp, crabs and snails out and dropped them in reef tank (none of the water tho). OMG. Wondering if I should remove all fish to quarantine and treat. Oh, snowflake eel not affected. All this happened new years eve.

I had velvet go thru my tank in Oct. Once it hits, its too late.
Leave the tank fishless for a min of 8 weeks.
All new fish should be qt so it don't happen again.

This happened to me the end of last year and left it empty (except CUC) for 9 weeks. All fish go into my QT before even looking at the DT :)
