Marineland 180 gallon tank question??

I possibly might buy a used Marineland 180 gallon reef ready tank, it is about 6 years old. Would there be any need to re-silicone the tank? How would I know if it needs to be done?

Does it have water in it now? If not do a visual inspection of silicone and ask seller to fill it with tap water and watch for leaks. I have the same tank but bought it new. Only thing I don’t like is the single drain hole(in each overflow). For a Herbie setup you will have to run the return lines over the top of the tank.

Did you run your return lines over the top as well. ?

The tank is full with water right now, he is switching to a smaller tank

I didn’t but the Durso is too loud. That will be another project that I’ll do soon. It’s been this way for about a year but really getting tired of the noise. My sump is in the basement so I have to redo most of the plumbing which is a pretty big job.

The only way to properly reseal a tank is to completly disassemble every pane, clean all the silicone off, clean with acetone, and reassemble it with new silicone. New silicone will not properly adhere to old silicone to make a watertight seal. If it holds water then it's ok until it leaks, that's the only guarantee you expect from any tank whether it's new or used.
