Marineland Corner overflow

I'm adding water to the tank at the overflow but no water is coming out of the lower grill of the corner. I thought water fead the overflow crom the lower grill and over the top.

Am I wrong or am I mistaken?

Which marineland tank do you have?
I have one with a corner overflow and the water goes over the weir at the top part of the overflow. That panel is removable for ease of cleaning. The lower grill area does not serve any purpose in water exchange going into the overflow; rather, it helps to drive the water out when you remove the panel and put it back in when the tank is full of water.

Does your overflow reach right to the bottom of the tank?
If so, there is an inner and outer portion to the megaflow system.
The outer portion with teeth down near the bottom and midway flows over the inner rim near the weir teeth.

What tank do you have?

On mine, the overflow reaches to the bottom of the tank. There is a slotted vent type of opening on a panel that slides in and off the overflow. The tank water does not enter the overflow from that area, it only enter goes over the weir at the top of the overflow.

I had a corner-flow tank before. I remember not a lot of water going throw the bottom weir.
That black plastic piece is removable by lifting up, on mine I lifted it up 1-2 mm to increase the flow going through the bottom.

On that tank the water on the bottom weir goes in the bottom and out below the lip on the inside of the overflow.

The water flowing over the upper weir teeth goes over top of that lip and in, it will also grow a lot of algae there unless you cover it.

Been a few years but that's how I remember it.
