Marineland DD 200 or a Reef Savvy Custom??

Hello Everyone,
Earlier this year I switched to a Deep Blue 75 Rimless from a 60 cube. The switch was made in haste due to some issues with the other tank, but it had to be done quickly. I've outfitted the 75 with dry rock and a Nac 6.5 skimmer and I'm running 2 AI Sol Super Blues. To be honest when we were rushing for the new tank, we originally were going to purchase a 120 perfecto, but at the time the lighting concern was an issue. We are now in the market for a larger build. I like the look of the DD but the price makes me wonder if I can get more for less or bigger for the same price. I've found it to be about $1800 for the tank only/w shipping on the DD 200. I think I'm just afraid if I can get it through a standard door..
Being in FL, I have been looking at Reef Savvy and requested a quote on a custom 170. I'm hoping to hear back soon. I've seen their tanks in some LFS and I like that they are a local builder.
So my question to you all is what/whom would you recommend for a large DD tank? And why? :gossip:

I have to say that I do like the rimless look. That is what the 75 is. But I've been wondering about the future livestock. A Blue spotted jaw is on the list and I hear they are jumpers. A bit un-decided on what to do. Maybe some pics of what people have..??:bigsmile:

There is something about a custom built tank and stand that is EXACTLY as you want. I'd go Reef Savvy if the price is agreeable

I agree FishLipz. If I can get a stand and tank in that price, plus from a local vendor, that would be key. Nothing against Marineland, the DD is very sexy. It's like the Angelina or Jen question...

Reef savy all the way man, I saw one of their tanks in person and it was pretty amazing! Even if it's a little extra than the DD at least
You can build it exactly how you want it! You will thanks yourself in the long run. I went through no joke about 10 different tanks till I bit the bullet and got a custom made starphire rimless with the exact dimensions I wanted plus am external overflow... I kick myself for not doing it sooner.

If I lived in Florida in would be no question Reef Savvy hands down the prices are very fair and the craftsmanship is second to none and great people to deal with.. just my 2 cents ..hope this helps good luck with your new tank

I would go reef savvy, Felix's work shows that he takes pride in what he does and his customer service is beyond great. I have seen many of his tanks and they are all flawless. I have yet to hear one bad thing about his tanks. Either way I'm sure you will be more than happy. Good luck

When I was shopping tanks my 250g marineland deep dimension was WAY cheaper than a custom tank. If money is no object custom all the way. But if you are working with a budget the amount of money saved can be put towards some nice fish/corals.

Money permitting I would go with reefsavvy I have on of their tanks and my only complaint is that I didn't go bigger but that was my own fault. The quality is awesome and you could do the dimensions any way you like. You will not regret it I guarantee it. Good luck

I know I am late to the party but I can tell you Reef Savvy quality is hands down superb! I have seen their tanks first hand and the craftsmanship is great!

As a 200 dd owner, I recommend Reef Savvy also. Their work is amazing. I bought my 200dd because I got an unbelievable deal, that said I would not do it again, I would spend the money for a Reef Savvy. (Just be prepared for a long wait time and much higher price.

I put mesh covers on mine due to livestock jumping.

Things I don't like about my 200dd:
1. Side overflows take up too much space...if I did custom I'd get them in a box hanging off the back in the center of tank so they don't take valuable space.
2. Factory stand is terrible. Way to small to do any maintenance on sump, and limits skimmer options if going in sump.
3. Not big enough. Should have gone with a 300 dd if not custom.

200 will fit through door, but you have to turn it on side. I recommend using more than 2 people and/or suction clamps because it's a really close fit!

Go Reef Savvy. I own a 90 gallon rimless Reef Savvy and I am telling you I could not be happier! I know it is more money but the saying is buy your second one first.

+ like 20 Reef Savvy...I've seen several of their tanks in action...and I picked mine up while on vacation in FL, sad that I sold it before setting it up...thinking about ordering another one...
