I got a price today on a 250 gallon Marineland Deep Dimensions aquarium. $1600 for tank and $899 for stand.

I am curious to everyone's experience and opinions on Marineland tanks?

Please post, negative, positive, any kind of opinions please.

Thanks

Positives: Large tank with endless landscaping, if you are buying their stand life time warranty
Negatives: Too deep to reach in the back and plastic braces that will need to be replaced in 10 years.
FYI I had a 300DD

How was the 300 dd?

The plastic bracing drives me crazy, I don't know why they just don't use glass bracing like Oceanic used to.

I loved it other than if a coral broke off or got lost in the back I couldn't retrieve it. I am a grab it move it around person, with a DD it is very hard to be a hands on reefer.
Planet Aquariums uses a glass brace below the plastic brace for support, the plastic only holds the glass tops in place.

36" front to back dimension is awesome - just invest in a good pair of stainless tongs. Never had a DD tank, but did run the ML265 for four years - was very happy with it.
Presumably the lack of a glass brace is a cost thing. If you want that, go custom - but plan to pay at least double.

Where do you get prices on planet aquarium tanks

I would recommend doing some searches on Marineland DD tanks. You will see several reports of seams blowing out on them and issues working through the warranty and what is, is not, covered. I was looking at the 300 DD when I came across several different threads and ended up going custom instead for about the same price if not a bit cheaper. I do not know how many are not having issues, not reported, doing swell, etc. I can only say that when I was personally looking at the tank that is what I found and ended up going elsewhere.

Size of the tank is what drew me in. However, as a few already noted, you will need a painters ladder. Shoulder length gloves. It can be difficult to reach some areas of the tank. If you plan the aquascape accordingly you should be ok though. I have a 210 gallon that is both 30" front to back and also tall. Just this weekend I was talking to myself while trying to place an elegance coral on the sandbed - it wasn't a pretty conversation i must say but you get the point.

Personally I think they are beautiful tanks. I just didn't want to risk 300 or so gallons of water on my floor in a what if situation and those threads kept nagging at me so I did something different.

I have a 300DD. I got it used. Honestly I felt better about buying a used one than a new one because of the seam failure issue. I felt that if it was already up leak free for a couple years that it was a safer bet than a new untested one. I have a small ladder to work in there and I have fairly minimalist aquascaping so it's not too bad to work in there (but is annoying sometimes). The dimension looks awesome though, so I am quite happy in that regard.

With any manufacturer you will have some failure rate. I couldn't see them still making the tanks if the seems failed as often as you hear about. That being said though I have 6 friends who have had their seems blow. Two smaller tanks, a 300, 2 150t, 1 250, one 200.

That is way too many seems blown for me, I dont want to deal with that at all. I think I will not be getting a marineland tank, not worth the risk

The thing is I know of other manufacturers tanks that have failed as well. I would think that if Marineland was as bad as it seems sometimes they would have gone out of business. They are a major tank manufacturer I'm sure for every one the blows a seem there are many more that are fine. I have one of their 150t sitting next to me atm even though I had a friend who had 2 of them blow on him.

Just seems that acrylic tank will be safer for long run but will have to deal with scratches.
