I picked up a tank yesterday ( first brand new tank ever) Ya well it is a corner overflow and comes with a durso pipe.
My question is has anyone used the one that comes with the tank, its a 1" bulkhead but the durso has been upsized to 1-/2". So its rather big, and it has the hole drilled in the top with a little tube.
Will this be quite or should I get the stuff to make it a herbie? Trying not to go that route as I dont want the returns hanging over the back
I had spoke to Richard Durso, who invented that drain, and he advised me that you could stick air line on the top of that little plastic pipe with an air valve and adjust the air once you get your desired flow rate going. Because I asked him if drilling the hole bigger would help. He said a bigger hole would suck more air. You want the perfect amount of air. You also want to try to avoid 90 degree bends. The air has to escape.
With a durso, if you try to push too much water it will be louder. The slower the flow, the quieter it gets.
Marineland uses a large diameter pipe, but reduces down to 1" at the bulkhead. So the whole drain isn't that big. Just the stand pipe.
