Marineland overflow noise

My 120 single overflow has a RO 1095gph pump connected. I have it on the lowest setting “eco” It makes the noise and the water level goes up and down.

I have a gate value on my overflow drain side. It stops this issue if I close it I’m guessing half way. I was told this causes back pressure but I’m worried if I keep it even a little closed, it will cause a flood down the road.

Made a video:

Any suggestions?

Is there an air hole at the top of the upside down U in the overflow drain? You could add one or make the existing hole bigger. It's a little tough to see the plumbing in your sump. Is there a drain pipe inside the sump that extends significantly below the water level in the sump? That can also create this issue. I would also be reluctant to restrict the drain, where you only have one pipe and no emergency. But, I'm no plumbing expert.

there is a whole up top with a tube coming out. I did read to make more holes could help.
My drain into my sump goes deep onto the water. “They say that makes it quite “

You should change that to a herbie style overflow and take the return over the side and it will be silent and the pump can run wide open.

true, do you know if they sell anything that’s made for that? Something that would connect to the tank top and not fall out?

I suspect the drain into the sump going 'deep' into the water is the problem. I think you want it just barely under the water. Too deep and it won't allow the air in the line to clear as easily. Water in overflow goes up, generates enough force to clear the air and line drains better temporarily reducing the pressure, air accumulates again, reducing drain function, water starts to back up in the overflow until the pressure is again sufficient to clear the air........rinse and repeat.

In general, the Marineland overflows sorta suck (no pun intended). I have a dual corner Marineland 180 but, I built it into to closet/small room so I'm isolated from the inherent noise. I had a single overflow Marineland 90 but, as Silent said, I ran a return over the top and had a herbie. I was always a hair nervous about a potential overflow with no emergency drain.

On my other tank right now, a 60 cube I drilled, I run a bean animal. I think any future tank I have will have a bean animal. If I had a Marineland 120 with a single overflow, I'd seriously consider drilling the tank for a bean animal if possible and taking out the original overflow.

thanks for the info.Based on this I could ether cut the tube going deep into my sump “eshopps” made it this way.
Or I figure how to install a Herbi.

my only issue is my tank is right on the wall. So I would have plumbing going up the side. I’m thinking I can do it on the right side “other side of my overflow” it would be hidden better but it would just loop over and onto the tank. I don’t know if plumbing it with soft tubbing or hard. Soft wild be easier ..

Hmmmmm
