Marineland tank silicone peeling

Hi everyone,

I have 20 gallon Marineland fish tank and in one corner I noticed that silicone sealant is peeling. What are your thoughts? Should I start freaking out?

personally, i would be concerned. anything that could potentially lead to water being on the floor makes me paranoid. however, the silicone doesn't seem to be compromised even if that piece if flying around. take some small scissors and cut it, and when cleaning the glass try to stay away from the seems and let your CUC eat up the algae that builds there. this is also a natural part of reef keeping as the silicone will deteriorate with age.

I would follow the above advice and get some silicone on hand. Next time you’re able to I would drain the water below that point and repair it. Let it cure for a few hours(as long as possible 24hr is general full cure time if I remember correctly)

Thank you both for advice! I am already trying not to clean the glass close to seem but I guess I'll have to fix.

I've had had it on many tanks, probably a little on pretty much every tank I've had over the years. The older the more likely some is to come loose and is not actually part of the seal / bond which is the silicone between the pieces of glass. It's just excess that was on the glass and has come loose. I take a razor blade and cut it off.

Yeah, I'll probably cut it off but I was just worried if I should re-seal it right away.
