Hi,

ive had the rainbow bta for a few months now. It’s a bit small maybe 3-4”.Just got a small maroon (2”). Read about clowns immediately diving in, but it’s been 3 days and this guy still hasn’t taken up residence. Help! Too small?

Thanks

Nah most captive bred dont know what a nem is. Theres tons of quirky ways to get them to host.

I just fed frozen brine right next to their nem for about a month and one day they just started hosting.

Other people swear by taping photos of clowns hosting nems on the glass but ive never tried it.

I guarantee they will figure it out eventually just give it time and stay persistent

You just have to be patient when it comes to anemones hosting clowns. Took my clown a few months

quoting GOT.... "this is known"... hahaaaa. give it time Entacmaea quadricolor is there native hosting nem, it could take weeks sometimes, one day you will wake up and there she is diving in and out.

Both my captive bred maroons took 2-3 days to find BTA. I suspect it might be instinct to check it out thoroughly to make sure its not already occupied. My little guy got very close for days but kept swimming past it, then boom. Maroons and BTA's will usually work out just be patient. Instinct will take over eventually.

Post a picture of another maroon in a BTA. Then put it right next to the BTA that you want it to host. It works.

Bought a lone small gold nugget maroon already hosting an anemone at the lfs and within a couple of hours it hosted both of my btas. After 2 days I bought a bigger gold nugget to pair it with at another lfs and it started hosting my Goni colony the next day. Maybe you could get another one that already knows how to host.

I went ahead and ditched my vortech. Replaced my single return pump and switched to two instead. Plenty of flow.
