So I got a dwarf lionfish a few days ago.. my maroon clown decided to kill him. I guess over territory. I may just get a second maroon and a lawnmower blenny and leave it alone .

But I was wondering would a normal size lionfish (not the dwarfs) be compatible?

Clownfish are terrors when it comes to territory i mean they are really horrible at times not sure how it will work out with a larger lion like a volitan could go both ways clownfish gets sucked into the lions mouth or the lions fins get picked off until it dies so its all a trial basis kinda thing..... how big is your tank? Thats a big factor... "(space)".

Maroons are one of the more agressive clowns, Im willing to bet that you wont be able to add a second. I had one that never allowed me to add a second maroon nor another fish to the tank for that matter.

If the clown will fit in the lion's mouth, it will be eaten. No guarantee another maroon or any other fish will be safe unless you have a huge tank.

If you want to add more fish this may be the only route. I had to do it with mine after having mine for 3 years.

How small of a tank can maroons be in? I really really want to keep my clown. Maybe a second maroon .so I guess, what size tank would be okay for a pair? (If they don't rip each others head off)

A 29 gallon would be perfect, IMO. I kept mine in its own 29gal for over 3 years till I gave him away to another reefer. It could move rocks the size of a football of they weren't secure. Would pick up and dump frags that I glued down into his personal frag dumping ground. Also fanned sand all in to one pile in the corner of the tank. Cool fish but a pain in the behind to be honest.

I was thinking of getting a 33 long. Do you know by chance if those are tempered or non tempered? Just wondering if they can be drilled. I not could I use an overflow box?

Well you wont be able to home a larger lion in a 75g so rehoming the maroons your best bet they are just so agressive i watched on beat the heck outta a larger angelfish @ the lfs until he got moved into isolation upon my request i mean tore the poor tangs fins up... a while back i bought a snowflake ocellaris it dogged every fish i had the whole tank was his territory it sucked due to poor qt practices i loss that whole tank to ich all in all long story short you dont have enough space in the 75g for any new fish to get away from the maroon hell chase it down and kill the other fish [emoji17] rehome. Sell it.. or keep it thats the only ways unfortunately

:( Never knew I had such a nasty fish

I have a maroon that I had to rehome as well, so mean it would pick on my hand if I ever put it in the water. I have it in a biocube now with a bunch of nems & he is super happy. Still to this day though, if I even lean over the tank to look in, he hits the top of the water trying to get me.

Only fish I have found that he doesn't bother is a blenny. They live perfectly fine in my biocube.

I’ve read cases where redoing the aquascape does a “reset” on territory. I’ve heard people doing this with very territorial fish when they add a new one, so everything is fresh for all the fish.
