I have a large female gold stripe maroon whose face is suddenly swollen. In the pics (below) you can mainly see the swelling around her eyes, but it's also her face & lips. So what does everyone think? I guess it could be a bacterial infection setting in. I don't have any zoas in my tank that might have caused this. I do have some stinging LPS, however. But she most stays in & around her BTA.

Two more pics. In one you can see the swelling by her gold stripe; in the other you can see her white swollen lips.

My large female clown used to take on the very large bristle worms. I would not be surprised if she tangled with something.

Wow that's odd. Did she forget to brush and the anyone stung her?

Wife has an interesting theory. During the summer months, we are constantly coming & going from outside. So we get mosquitoes, flies, wasps, etc. inside the house from the doors being opened so much. It seems every day there's a dead flying insect floating on the surface of the water of my tank - I guess they are attracted to my tank's bright lights and then get zapped (probably by the MH.)

So maybe "Brown Cow" tried to eat a wasp and it didn't turn out too well for her. ;)

Is she doing better now? Is the swelling down?

Her face is still pretty swollen. Seems like her vision is somewhat affected. I'm trying to get her out now, to put into a QT. Wife wants to try dosing a Benadryl (crushed up) into the water after I remove the pink dye coating. We shall see.

This is what we do on a Saturday night. ;)

Caring and loving your pets is the best thing anyone can do anytime.

You guys are as lame as my wife and I! :D

So just to update ... She's looking better and has started eating again. Both good signs. :)

I've tried catching her, even moving the nem to a more open space, but she hides behind the rocks anytime I put my hand in there. :p I told my wife flat out I'm not tearing apart a 150 gal over a maroon clown. Of course she's  about that.

One good thing to come out of all this ... where I moved the nem to, it's now killing a bunch of xenia I've been meaning to prune back anyway. ;)

Did you by chance allow her to get Botox? Perhaps she was ashamed of her appearance for her age and you failed to reassure her.

She's at least 10 years old, so she might need some botox. ;) My wife gets  when I call her "brown cow" - says it's gonna give her a complex or something.

And just to add... the reason it might seem like I don't like this fish is she will bite my hand and even make me bleed sometimes. And on top of that she's responsible for the damaged eye on my yellow flank wrasse (who will cuddle up in my hand sometimes.) The only reason I put up with all this is my wife protects that fish like it's her baby or something.

See? Not real nice. Fish know. She knows you make fun of her weight. She would slap you if she had hands. Now she's gone and gotten Botox in an attempt to make you happy with her appearance.
