sorry for the iPhone pic. I've had this clown for a while and I can't seem to find any more like it. It's a very dark maroon and around all its fins is bright orange. Is this normal? Why don't any maroons at the LFS look like mine?

Maroons(and well most clowns) change colors as they mature. They darken up a lot. What your likely looking at in the LFS is a bunch of juvenile males.

There's nothing for scale in those pics but he's less than 2" long

I've seen a few like him. Their not common, but their easy to find. The other day me and my dad saw a clownfish with an x on it, and we asked the person how much, and they told us he's worth to much to sell! Haha can we buy yours?

I have a lighter one.
I've seen darker ones with light fins. I was also told that many of them get darker as hey get older.

here is an example... my two BO clowns so only half maroon.
Taken May 24th...two juvenile males (fish in the back of this shot is the one featured in the others and the one who turned female.)

Kinda wish it would have stopped around about photo two lol going to end up with black and whites at this rate.

Awesome looking maroons! I love my maroon, although he is a giant $%#$%. Other than that, he's awesome.

Two things, if he is the only maroon clown in the tank. Then he will be come a she;). Mine has pretty much the same markings and she is about 9 months old

If I could only find a lighter color maroon clown. I have also been looking at the lightning maroon clowns.

All I can say is wow!! What a beautiful fish!!!

Yeah the gold stripe maroon that I have is a female that I separated from a mated pair. The white stripe maroon that I also have is a male. They got along really well when they were in the QT. I put the smaller white stripe in the DT so he can establish his territory first since the larger gold stripe female will have no problems establishing herself once I put her in there with him.

That makes sense. :)

They are pricey though, the lowest I have found is $150, and that is a steal compared to $600 plus.
