Hi Everybody,

Any help would be great! I've had my tank running for about 3 months now. I've had a female maroon clownfish in my tank for about two. I've had advisement from my LFS about pairing maroon clownfish. Yestersay I added, much smaller, second maroon clownfish. They have chased each other a couple time since. The smaller Maroon went side ways and had a shaking like seizure and then retreated to the other side of the tank behind the rocks. They periodically come together for a couple moments and then the female chases the male. The female seams to tolerate the smaller male.

It's been about a day and no big issues just a bit of chasing around every so often. No damage has been done to either fish and no ripped fins. They did well over night. I got up to check on them and they were together for a couple moments and the smaller one retreated to behind the rocks again. They are both healthy and eating well so far without any issues.

Any advice on what I should be looking for in the future or any other things I could do to help them along?

Thank in advance.

You chose probably the hardest clowns to pair. On a lighter note it sounds like they are doing Ok. You may consider placing some egg crate in the tank that he can get thru and she can't.

I'd say let them be, it sounds like they are doing great. My female lightning maroon had beaten her potential mate to a shredded mess by this point. I had to remove him from the tank to keep him alive. There is always some aggression even with more docile clowns like occys or percs. They are just establishing themselves. The shaking is a sign of submission and is a good thing. Just keep an eye on them, if you see shredded fins then you can start to get worried. Anything you do to "help" might actually hinder their getting a custom to each other.

Thank you so much for the great advice. Currently they're just hanging out on opposite sides of the tank which I assume is what they both have declared is their "territory," for now anyways. No fighting at all. The larger maroon chases the smaller one time to time. My fingers are crossed! :)

Went through this, I took both clowns and put the in a hang on with an air stone and a divider, I left them in there for several days and kept testing their chemistry. The larger one kept being a bully so I put the divider back in. It was about a week or so I tried again and no drama. Released them into the tank and the male followed the female to the anemone and they have been happy ever since.

The first time tried this I went the path that you took and it seemed fine for a bit, then one day the female snapped and attacked the smaller male and unfortunately he died. Went the route I just described and they are still happy together. Good luck!

Just a quick update:

As of today they seem to get along really well.
The male likes to go to the back of the rock work and hang out. The female stays in her area and the male will go and swim along with the female for a bit on and off throughout the day.
The female has just started hosting my bed of Green Star Polyps.

They don't fight or nip at each other at all. When the female seems to be annoyed she'll run him off but not aggressively. He'll retreat to his rock for a little while and come right back along side her.

I'm hoping this stays this way.
I'm planning on upgrading my tank to a much larger on in the next 6 months or so.

Hopefully they'll be well adjusted together until then.

Thank you everyone for the awesome advice.
