Maroon clowns? Tell me all about them.

I'm trying to gather information on maroon clowns before I commit into buying them. They are going to be the main fish in the tank, so aggression is no an issue. So go ahead, and tell me all about them.

My first fish. Ate my star polyps and ate my acans. Seemed to enjoy taking a chunk out of my corals and then spit it out at me as I watched from the front of the tank. Had to pull out nearly every piece of LR and corals to get the little son of a biscuit out of the tank and back to the LFS

Mine eat fingers (and toes I suppose, might have to try today as it is 100° outside) but never had any issues with any of my pairs doing anything to corals or softies. Mine can be rough on their anemones though.

They're a beautiful fish especially as they mature, guess I was just lucky to find one with a highly refined pallet for coral. I now have an ocellaris and she's awesome although nips at my fingers any time they're in the tank

Are maroons more likely to take to corals if there's no anemone because I hear that they take to anemones much easier than other clownfish?

I have a gold stripe maroon clown hate it hate it hate it bites hard enough to make pea size bruises, seems to delite in this. "swims" in the sand on a regular basis covering corals and messing with stability of tank and get sand in impellers. about 2x a year it decides it must pull up corals that are expoxied and super glued in place the last 2 were colonies that were about 5-6'' across and had been in the same place for over a year picked them up and moved them at least 6" dumping them on other corals thus smashing all branches also likes to take mouth full of sand and repeatedly dump it on clams if anyone has a teeny tiny little dart gun so I can shoot this sucker let me know! :frusty:

I've had my gold strip maroons for 10 years. They own the tank, I pay the bills. There are rules they have that you must follow: 1) GSM> Can and will pick up rocks 5x their size and carry them down the tank. They are not responsible for any coral damage in the process. All new rock and rock movement should have been approved by them in advance. 2) GSM> Can and will knock over rocks 100x their weight, again prior approval should have been submitted. 3) All corals deemed not anemone "safe" by them will be removed. The more expensive the faster they remove. 4) GSM> Sandbed will be adjusted for clown comfort around all nems, rocks, etc. 5) All human body parts will be bit unless evidence of normal glass cleaning is observed. And this is subject to change depending on infractions to the previous rules. Hope this helps!
