I don't know how accurate it is but I got an app on my tablet for a LUX meter. Was free......

Hello,

Yes the mars aqua are kinda the aka Chinese box lights. They will grow anything and of your not careful you will kill everything also. What are they replacing, and how high are they (turned up). Best way is to rent a par meter and find the hot spots in your tank and adjust from there.

Thank you for this help! Someone I know said 165w wouldn't be enough for sps. I think I would need three of them since i will be putting em on my 125 gallon 6 ft tank. I currently have a loop led light on my 75.

Few photos of my old 15g which I ran with a Chinese led 165w, not a mars aqua but they are almost identical led fixture. The second image I bought this coral while it was "brown" for $10 a couple months in my system coloured up nicely under my $80 Chinese led

You can definitely successfully grow beautiful sps under one of those lights you have

I dunno honestly man, I'd probably go 4. My 165w was covering 15in square space and cranked full ball!

One thing about lighting you can always turn them down, especially if your going for an sps tank over light and dial back if needed IMO. Especially when those led's are so cheap.

You should watch the video on BRS about the chinese black boxes. They create a laser beam of light in the middle basically...and drop significantly on the outside. Having the longer 300w fixtures would probably increase that problem in the middle.

And definitely not trying to bash them...I used to have marsaqua fixtures and they did well.

For a 125 I would do 3 and skip the two 300 watt ones in your sake. Again using a par meter will help elimante hot spots. If you have the marine pro ic loop, they will have better spread and color. However if your tank was smaller than 125 I would suggest those over the mars aqua. Because of the depth they won’t have enough par on the sand bed.

Personally I would keep the two 72 inch ic loop and leave them on blues only. Then use the mars aqua in the center (3). It would provide you with excellent coverage and different levels of 400nm leds.

I only have one loop light and not even the pro. and it's for the 48" to 60".

3-4 for a 6ft tank, 4 would be best if using just the LEDs and planning on lots of sps.
