Maspect Gyre 250 setup

So I just got 2 250 gyre with controller. I am using this on a 100 gallon tank. Yea probably too much but gives me room for upgrades later. I want to hear from you gyre guys what is your setup like? do you use the lunar and or oceanic cycles? do you create your own cycles? or random mode?

Being that i am new to both these pumps and Apex, how does Apex interact with gyres? only power on/off? or is there anything else the apex controller does?
