Massive fail- utterly devastated

Yep..... Exactly. So people just aren't saying anything these days! I guess learning by experience is another technique!

To me, it would be boring if we all had the same tanks with the same equipment and styled them all the same way. I will be the first ti admit when a problem arises and work to fix it. But I still believe there is progression to be made in this hobby and some of the tried and true standards may need to be pushed a little bit...

Keep a close eye on it. If its alive it should start responding to shadow as @morpheas mentioned. If this is your first clam, read up on it. Things like: clams need lots of light... air bubble inside the clam can kill it; if you take out of water you have to burp it when you put it back in water...

Going back to what happened: I think oxygen depletion is the most likely cause. One possibility is that the water the seller said was freshly mixed saltwater... maybe it wasn't. People make mistakes. What if it was just RO water. Did you check salinity of water when you got home?

No. Seller was legit. I gotta take the heat for this one...

Overstocking a small tank with tangs and rock is a hobby standard that needs to be pushed a bit? I don't want what your smoking.... Good luck, you're gonna need it...

Not afraid to make mistakes and be humbled. It's part of the journey...

I think the point is to know what you are doing so you don't make mistakes that are so so easily avoided. We have all made mistakes in this hobby, but the point of a forum such as this isn't to post your mistakes, but to learn from the mistakes of others and not make them yourself. What is the point of having so much information if you don't use it.

Also that many fish in a 65 with that much rock is a bad idea. Are you quarantining them in the 65?

I think you need to be more respectful. It doesn't matter if he's making a mistake or not, he and everybody else needs to be treated with respect and act accordingly.

Only thing we can do here is advise and let the other person take it or leave it. He has been warned about his stocking and also i mentioned about the rock but it's his choice to respectfully disagree and go his own way.

This forum prides itself for the friendly environment and family like group and he has always been nothing but nice. Therefore i will ask that we remain respectful as well.

To the point, i would make sure there's enough flow around your rock work. If you have dead spots address them. Also if i were you I'd double check everything is secure. Finally, not to beat a dead horse, but keep an eye out for any sign of sickness and be prepared to immediately treat and qt. I personally would also have a backup rehoming plan.

Do not let anyone suck the fun out of it, sit back and enjoy what you create. I would advice for you to be more cautious and careful with stocking and planning but who am i to force you. I'm personally really happy to see you enjoying this so much, i know i do.

I appreciate that...

Lol you "ask", I don't answer to anyone and I can post however I feel fit. Sorry, I speak with truth and don't dance around to hopefully not hurt someone's little feelings.
What are you gonna do when Trump is president??? Cry like a baby??

Anyway.
4 tangs in a 65g with so much rock just piled on top of if each other to the top of the tank, with very limited swimming is just asking for another massive failure. Would live to see what under the tank.

OP - I thought you were still cycling your tank. Weren't you just asking about trying to get used LFS water to cycle your tank a week or two ago?

My friend you confuse being honest with being disrespectful. It's one thing saying "hey IMHO" (which by the way means in my HUMBLE opinion, and humble you are definitely not portraying yourself to be) and it's another thing saying "I don't want what your smoking". That is down right disrespectful. And yes, you do answer to how you post, certainly not to me personally but to basic rules of etiquette. @MOPAR 's post had the same gist as yours but it was in a much more appropriate and respectful way. The Trump comment btw was completely irrelevant, I guess you threw it in there to make some kind of sense...

Anyway, staring a flaming war is not going to take us anywhere. Like a lot of people in here I agree with yours and everybody else's assessment that the amount and type of fish for the tank are too much but it's not our place to attack someone. We offer our experience in a take it or leave it basis. Besides, the OP has already moved into purchasing a 220g as indicated in another thread so all is good with the world.

With all due respect this statement is pretty cold hearted when thinking about the livestock... Your basically saying I'm not afraid to kill off some fish, it's part of the learning curve. You've got multiple experienced reefers telling you 4 large tangs in that small of a tank is a ticking time bomb. And you were going to put 4 more in there... Also, apparently your tank is still cycling/just got finished cycling. It will be a miracle if this turns out well. I understand your excited and want to get all these cool new things in your tank but for the sake of the livestock I think you need to slow down a bit and do more research and less buying. Going this fast without the knowledge is asking for disaster and more disappointment. I'm not trying to be hard on you, just coming from someone who's been in the hobby for 10 years and have seen this all too often.

Totally agree with you on this. Glad 2 see you have a much bigger tank coming for these that will fit their needs nicely. Jon just slow down a bit there bud. You are going to need some patience no matter what route you take. Patience, I hate that word but it's a reefers best friend.

Ha!

I'm not a humble person.

So far none of my postings have been removed for rule violations and most likely won't. Again, being blunt/straight to the point is not a violation of the site or any laws in the US.

Can't wait to see the Craigslist 220 build lol.

It's not illegal to be rude and disrespectful, I never said that. I said it's preferable ("I ask", "basic rules of etiquette") to be nice. You don't want to that's fine, everyone else in here can judge from your responses. Not worth continuing and blowing out of proportions. "Good day sir!"

Just to lighten the mood...

Please secure your live rock! if somthing knocks that over its gonna come right through the front of your tank. its prob a good thing that those large fish died in transit, the stress the fish will have been through will have caused chaos in your tank and will be more than 4 fish dead.
