Masstick in quarantine? Water quality?

I have a very small dwarf angel in my observation tank that I want to fatten up before I place in the reef.

An obvious solution is to feed more, but since I work outside of the house, feeding tdo 6 times a day is hard. I would try an auto feeder, but I'm concerned that an auto feeder would rapidly destroy my water quality.

So, I'm thinking about masstick. Has anyone used it in relatively minimalistic quarantine tanks? If so, how did it impact water quality? How long did it last in the tank before it disintegrated?

Am I going in the wrong direction here? Other ideas?

I use it in my QT tank, although mine is 40 gallons. My boxfish loves it, and somewhat surprisingly, one of my wild clowns will nibble at it too. It's actually pretty clean as it's somewhat like a gel. Not like repashy, but close.

Honestly, the hardest part about using is it convincing fish that it's actually food. Once they figure that out, it's pretty clean if it gets eaten up in less than 10 minutes lol

I wouldn’t stress too much about the type of food, as most of the food will come out of the fish as poo, ends up in the water anyway.

Can you just do more water changes.

Pellets and masstick are super nutrient dense. I’d think twice a day is more than enough to get a dwarf angel to gain weight.


I think 6x a day is too excessive in a QT tank. That’s just me personally though. Maybe if the feedings were really small and spaced out it could work.

I use one of those frozen food feeders, highly recommended.
