Masstick?!?

Just wanted to share. I recently purchased Copperband Buttefly, I have never even thought about getting one because of difficulties associated with them. I have over 3 decades of experience and the wife wanted one so... I was able to pick one up at a local store that was eating pretty aggressively. Fast forward to a few days later in my QT and it seems to be less and less interested in food. I even tried live baby brine shrimp and in the first day it ate several pieces but now it' not interested. After some research I set out to find Masstick, luckily I found it at the same store I got the fish from. Took probably less than a minute for the Coppeband to find it on the glass but once it found it he couldn't get enough. I'm hoping it brings back his appetite for everything else!

Cool, getting a CBB to eat can be tough. Is the Masstick a food or a binder for food?

It's a complete food/binder mix, though other things can be added.

From all I've heard, the stuff is near sorcery.

I use it too, its fantastic all my fish eat it. I brought it specifically for my Copperband butterfly who was not interested in any food, fresh clams, frozen etc put some of that on the glass...and he was straight on it and loves it. He now eats frozen too, but I still add some daily specifically for him. When I mix mine, I add a drop of Omega3 fish oil.

I think partly its a more natural way for them to eat.

It is sorcery! I am blown away by how all of my fish go crazy for it. I got it specifically for the Copperband but all of my fish love it. I even made a special feeder just for the Copperband so he can get his own secret stash.

Any insight into what it does to water quality?

I imagine it has the same effect on water quality as any other fish food. It’s usually eaten within about 2 minutes. I put a small amount on the glass and a small amount in a piece of pvc with a hole in it for the Copperband.

I've seen it in action on new arrival finicky fish in LFS, definitely scores high on my fish food list.
It was not intended to be a CBB food but luckily most CBB get to feed at it. It also sticks so it's nice to use on CBB DIY special feeding devices which are sometimes needed to allow CBB the advantage over other faster eating fish in a tank. Now there real challenge will be if Maastick has better food in it to sustain CBB long-term as many do feed but still keepn waisting away in 3-6 months.

Once and a while I'll put some Masstick in a clam shell and both the Copper Band and Melanurus attack it and the other fish get what floats around. I add a few drops of Selcon to the water that I use to mix the Masstick with.

How's the CBB doing? I got some MasStick and planning on stock it as part of my food list. It's a great fish overall and easy to add supplements to it.

Unfortunately it did not make it thru QT. He was eating and appeared to be putting on weight with the Masstick but suddenly died. No idea what went wrong. I still feed Masstick because all of my fish love it.

Once the mixture is homogenous, Masstick may be used immediately or frozen for later use. If freezing Masstick, it should be used within five weeks after preparation.

I meant the portion in the aquarium, lets say you put a nickel sized piece in and the fish eat some but not all of it, how long can it remain in the tank before it should be removed in order to reduce chances of raising phosphates etc?

Well i would start out using a small amount & work your way up, if you are particularly worried about nutrients.

they can graze on it all day like nori i love it dope to see non nori eating fish at the glass
