Mat between tank and stand?

So there us a little gap between my rimmed tank (10 gal) and stand. I heard putting a mat under is for rimless tanks, but in this case, could I put a mat under my tank for that gap?

I have neoprene and a drying dish mat to use.

On a 10-gallon it's not mission critical, so yeah - you could definitely cut some neoprene to fit.
