I need help with some math so I don't mess anything up please.:) Using Brightwell Magnesium Liquid kind I want to go up 120ppm. Tank is roughly 50g, bottle says 1 ml raises 26ppm per 1 US.g help meh for the love!!!

120ppm ÷ 26ppm = 4.615 drops per gallon × 50 gallons = 230.769 drops total. Try that and see if it makes sense.

Except it is mL, not drops. :)

I find it helps me to first think of the dosage in terms of my tank volume. So if 1 ml raises 26ppm per gallon, and the tank is 50 gallons, then you can just think of it as "50 ml raises the whole tank by 26 ppm". (Then I write that on the bottle with a sharpie so I remember.)

Then whenever you want to dose, you just figure out how many multiples of that 50 ml that you need to add:
120 ppm ÷ 26 ppm = 4.615
4.615 × 50 ml = 230.75 ml

Just got off work. Was kinda slow only a handful of tables, darn Balloon Fiesta. Thank You all so much xD I'm really bad at math :)

Man I knew it was going to be alot added 4 capfuls last night to get me started so I need 210.75 more how much would you all advise to add in at one time? reason I ask is I need to raise my calcium up 40.
just guessing but over the last 3 months since I fought off GHA/Cyano/Bubble alot of coraline has been popping up

I have to admit that for the last 10 months I have been chasing my tail around the tank with algae lots of it tons of it 6 hrs a week of pulling man I love this hobby to do the things I do. My first 8 months I was the most arrogant reefer to boot thinking I had it all down with a great looking tank lil did I know.

Tested yesterday at 1200 mg,cal 400. alk 8.7 nitrates 0 (picked up some red sea a and b to bump this) I ordered a ultra low phos hanna today. My LFS was kind enough to get that done on their hanna Phosphate 0.01
thxs for taking the time to decipher what I'm trying to relate :)

edit :forgot to mention I dose to maintain alk and cal with reef fusion 1&2 around 13mls a day each

I'd boost magnesium 25-50 ppm per day, with the concern primarily being the potential to add impurities along with the magnesium.

What salt mix and what salinity? The low magnesium might just be test error.

just got off from work sry! I use Aquavitro Salinity 1.026. The new batch is slightly lower. 1390 I think was the old batch's MG 3rd party. I use Red Sea Foundation but after reading the MG results for RS you may be right my LFS does not carry salfert so i need to order this.
I have not tested MG in months the reason I was initially concerned was my Alk was flocking thought it would be good idea.
I got my Hanna in today same reading 0.01,nitrate 0 I will be testing later tonight MG,Cal,Alk

Yesterday I did 4 doses 20 ML's each on the last batch, last capful abit of the MG looked liked it flocked turning into metal foil just one or two small flakes ? THANKS xD!

new test tonite
MG 1270 up 70
cal 385 down 15
alk 8.4 down .3
will continue adding slowing try to get in 2 sep 20 ml doses tonite

Just got off! yes I have added 140 ml's. still 90 to go for the target mark of 1320. I started at 1200 thursday adding in 20 ml's the following day Friday I added 80 ml's totaling 100 ml's. I did 40 ml's last night being cautious due to friday's last capful having a few flakes(flocking?) so I was worried about oversaturating.

today I plan to finish it out on the last dose.......maybe spread it out I really need to get my calcium up.
thursday reading of cal was 400 and alk was sitting at 8.7 Saturday's test had me at cal 385 alk 8.4.

I guess what I'm worried about now is I have never targeted one just used Reef Fusion 2-part to maintain between W/C's. Today is W/C day but with 0 nitrate and 0.01phosphate I'd rather just monitor the nutrients closely till I can get a better idea of new schedule for W/C's.

with this wall of text getting larger what would be the best way to target just Calcium I'd like to raise it 44o. 65ppm+. THANKS

lotta of other stuff in that I don't test for plus there is abit of alk. not sure how this will react with the last Mag dose today. but I guess if I'm already low in calcium logic would dictate other traces elements off.IDK

I was told you can dose Mag and Cal in the same day but not Alk is this untrue?

As long as one mixes in before you add a different additive, you will be fine. That might only require a few minutes, but if you dose into a sump, waiting a bit longer may be useful for it to flush through. [emoji3]

Just got off and its...........TESTING DAY worst day oiii. Calcium is in fingers crossed I hit my mark area.

SO I was having trouble with Hanna 731 I believe it was anyway exchanged it for the 736.
First time using any pro tips? will be testing in abit gonna eat take a shower.

almost feel like a real reefer almost..... ha ;)

There's a good instruction video here:
What helps a lot is:

1) Fill the cuvette with the 10 ml sample ahead of time. I use a syringe to measure exactly 10 ml, instead of eyeballing the line printed on the cuvette.

2) Also open and prep the reagent pack ahead of time. Cut it open the way they show in the video, then set it someplace like inside the test kit box where you can keep it propped up without spilling until you need it.

3) It helps to have a small funnel to get the reagent into the cuvette without spilling a lot. If you don't have a small enough funnel, just make a funnel shape out of a rolled-up post-it note or index card or something, tape it to keep the shape, and cut the tip off so it has an opening that will fit in the top of the cuvette.
