looks to me like they're fighting. I have seen hermit crab mating before, doesn't look like that. If I remember right they actually comes out of their shell for a little bit to mate

true: they usually come out of their shells, or at least part way for the female's genital opening (gonopores) to line up with the males genital parts (can't recall the name of the male's parts and I'm too hungry now to google...off to dinner. LOL).

looks to me like the bigger wanted whatever the smaller one had lol
