Has anyone any experience with this product? Im setting up a 75 with 20 sump. Lfs said to put matrix in filter bag. Pour half bottle over bag. Then wait a few days and pour rest.

Dr. Tim's is excellent; I've used it on about four different occasions. Just make sure it's the right formula (fresh/sw) and that it's not expired. Do not freeze or leave in a hot car. :)

The matrix is good for denitrifiers because it's microporous, but not really necessary if you have LR and/or a deep sand bed. It requires low flow to really work like it's supposed to so I personally wouldn't bother.

Sludge? That sounds an awful lot like it might be loaded with organics that could be or are decomposing. I could easily be wrong, but that sounds like an issue waiting to happen. Other than that, yeah, looks like you're on the right track. Do you know the poundage of the rock you bought?

The sludge is mostly sand, crushed coral, and shells. I will eventually remove it once I'm through cycleing. I bought 14 lbs dyy, 14 lbs of the caribsea purple rock dry. Bacteria Infused Life Rock on the Way from CaribSea | AquaNerd It has bacteria in it that activates once its in water. And the tank came with alot of cured rock. Not sure weight but I'm going to guess 40 lbs.

Ive used Dr Tims and can highly recommend it.

When i set my tank up (a 72l nano) i used 3 capfuls poured straight into the tank (dont have a sump) and used Dr Tims Ammonia Chloride to cycle my tank... the cycle completed in less than a week.

I cant comment on the Matix but i love Seachems purigen and seagel... if they are anything to go by im sure the matrix product is fantastic.

Well, you certainly have enough LR. XD
A tip, you can use somewhat less than a pound per gallon.

Go ahead and use the matrix if you want. Just keep in mind that it is merely a facilitative housing for bacteria. In and of itself it does nothing.
