I have had a matted file fish since April. Been moving him between tanks, 90 gallon and 40 gallon. He keeps the aiptaisia in check in both.
I have both tanks on auto feeders (pe pellets in 90 , flakes in 40) and feed Rods, frozen mysis or home made meaty food about every other day. Vita chem every other feeding.
When he is in the 90, he swims manically up and down the glass most of the day, I suspect because there are 10 other small fish and lots of activity. He grabs his share of meat when offered.
In the 40, he is very chill, only 2 clowns who seem intimidated by him, but he wont chase the meat and lives off the auto feeder which is dropping Omega One Marine Flakes twice a day.
My question is, are the flakes twice a day a sufficient diet?

Flakes only isn’t a good diet, fish need to get their nutrients from meats as well. I feed;
- Varied Flakes, Pellets ect
- Chopped Mussel
- Chopped Cockle
- Mysis
- Mix of varied foods (Including algae)
- Brine Shrimp
- Brine Shrimp w/ Garlic

Some of these are rotated with others every few months (Specifically the Cockle, Mussel and Brine Shrimp).

Understood. All my fish get a good variety of meaty foods, just seems the file fish doesn't want to chase it when he is in the clown tank. I put some frozen brine shrimp in front of him today and he snarfed it up. I suppose the clowns are bullying when i am not around. Back to the 90 he goes.

I forgot about the freeze dried brine, great for soaking up the selcon/vita chem. I have a few crumbs left so I ordered another.

Thanks for taking the time to reply
