Hello there, I found this In my searching and am looking for your opinions.I absolutely love this species. I originally wanted a clownfish but this might be a game changer. Is a 36 Gallon tank enough?Some sites say 30 gallons others say 40. I’ve read that they’re peaceful except with other filefish. Actually if a clownfish and matted filefish could coexist I might go that route.
What life forms are compatible? coral?Anemone ?
Any other insight would be great.thanks

I have a filefish and a percula clown, no problems what so ever. And so far he also hasn't bothered any of my corals. He also tools care of all my aiptasia except for one big one in the back of the tank.
 
I would say this fish will get along with any other fish except another file fish. Get it, but know it will nip at everything.

Mine is a very peaceful fish and I have an aiptasia file as well.
It will eat stomatela snails and most snails you put in, I have mostly cowries now as it can't get into them.
They grow big!
This is just my opinion as you seem to really want one, I wouldn't recommend one unless you intend to upgrade or re home it at some point.
