I am bringing up a 40 gallon breeder and have chosen Mature Reef to cycle.

I am using dry rock.

Due to physical location, procuring live rock is a challenge and extremely expensive.

#1. Is there a down side of using Mature Reef and then populating the tank with coraline algae chips that I can get?

If so, at what stage would the most appropriate to introduce the coraline algae.

#2. Am I to assume that I should keep my lights (ATI 6x39) on an 8-10 hour schedule during the cycle?

Just trying to make all the pieces fit.

Thanks in advance.
