There really isn't one. It all depends on your filtration. But, you also have to consider the max size of the fish and temperment, are they territorial or peaceful, etc...

Thx. That's about what I have now plus a fire shrimp. Do invertebrates count towards the total? In your opinion?

I have 2 engineer gobis, 2 firetail gobis and 1 clown. Do invertebrates count?

I would pair the Clown and add another small fish like a Basslet or something like that. Maybe a small wrasse.
