so I just realized that my tank is getting to 82-83 when the T5s are on and right at 80 when the t5s go off. I assume this is way too hot and I need to get some fans to blow on the tank.

I keep my AC in this room at 73, but obviously isnt doing enough so I think I should add some clip on fans to the sump in the basement.

Many years ago when I had MH's and in sump return pumps that gave off allot of heat. I was around that 82 degrees. I don't remember killing any sps due to the heat, but that is right at the threshold. I started to place fans over the sump to bring the heat level down as you suggested. It will work.

Couple of questions for you.
1. What kind of return pumps are you using?
2. What kind of pump you use for skimmer if you have one?

that can be to much of a difference and you can start getting RTN or STN on your sps. Add a chiller if possible or raise your heater to 81 degrees so that you will only fluctuate 1 or 2 degrees and not 3.

I run my tank between 77 - 77.5 almost constantly with the help of a fan and heater controlled by my Apex.

Excellent Excellent Observation. I would get on that immediately. I was only looking at the top temp. The swings as stated can cause you to loose sps. Not the heat. I totally agree. Great catch.

I also have a t5 lit tank and was getting between 79 and 82 everyday. Actos never did well and GHA loved it. I raised my lights to 8 inches above the water (they were at 6) added a vent and instantly the tank is now running between 77,7 and 78,8. Also, my heater was way off and only after adding a temperature probe did I realize how high I was running the tank.
