My maxi -jet sucked in 3 fish already , so it took the lives of 3 healthy fish . It killed a Green Mandrine Goby , a copperbanded butterflyfish , and sailfin tang. The sailfin tang died later after fighting the circulation pump . He died of injuries. What should I do? Should I sue them, or try to contact them? I'm upset I lost $155 of fish.

This is what happened to the sailfin tang, injured from the maxi jet and died a day later

Post pic of the pump as it is in tank. I've not heard of this with their pumps under normal circumstances.

Id be quite surprised if a maxijet overpowered three healthy fish - the 1200 PRO is only rated for 1300GPH. How big of a tank were all these fish in? Doesnt this powerhead also come with screens for the intake? I use mine to mix up saltwater in a 20 gallon brute can, and it barely moves the water when its at the bottom.

Here is the circulation pumps, and one of them is a maxi-jet and my tank is a 90g long. Thank you for your help!

Were the fish thin to begin with? If they are suffering from some sort of ailment they may have been week and/or died before the pump got them.

That fish looked to be pretty emaciated so I dont doubt that it was unable to fight against the suction of the pump.

It's just weird though , healthy fish and there not thin at all , and end up in the circulation pump, the only thing is it could be cynide posining but they lived in my tank for at least two months before it happened , and the sailfin for 6 months .

Yeah it's crazy normally only only weak fish would get into powerhead troubles. Nothing odd about placement of it.

Maxi jet did not kill the fish, unless there was an exposed wire, which would kill everything at exactly the same time. Also sorry to hear about your fish, I've killed a lot of fish too before I learned, but don't let that discourage you. Definitely try to learn what caused it, the best way to do it, is post up the pictures, describe your system and parameters, the age of the system , temperature, salinity, size of the tank, and basically anything you can think of . Some of the guys on the forum are insanely good with identifying the problems with the fish, and they will be able to tell you the most likely cause of death.

From the looks of the tang it is definitely starving, and that usually happens in 2 cases , either 1 you do not feed the fish at all , or the fish is sick and does not eat enough. For the reference, this is a healthy sail fin, they should look this fat even when they're 3"-4" in diameter.

Also , read up on 1) fish diseases, and 2 ) quarantining the fish . both of those things could be found on this forum or on the web. This will save you a ton of money and time.

That Salfin looks bone thin. There are some issues with the fish if it can't swim away from the pump
