I have been using MaxiJets for circulation on wavemakers since dirt was new and last year tried the SureFlow 1600 propeller mods. I really like them and wondered why MarineLand didn't make them themselves instead of letting another company capitalize on their product. Well, back in January I bought one of the new MaxiJets that came with their own propeller and "ball joint" mount. I don't think it put out quite as much flow as the SureFlow with the big white prop but I thought it would be fine to be able to get it from the same people who made the powerhead. I have finally quit using it and gone back to the SureFlow. I could never get it to keep running on a wavemaker. I could start it up and watch it and it would seem fine. But tomorrow (or later on the same day) I'd look at it and it had stopped. I could touch it and wiggle it a little bit and it would start again but it wouldn't keep starting on a consistent basis. Is there a design flaw or did I just get a bad one?

I did notice that the "regular" impeller is a little shorter and a little fatter than the ones for the old powerhead so you can't use the SureFlow mod on these. I think you probably could if you ground the shaft down a little shorter.

I have the same problem with my maxijet 400 in my wifes nano...its not on a wavemaker but sometimes it stops blowing water and starts sucking back into itself or it just stops working period. i can unplug and plug it back in and the it works just fine

I think my problem is related to the wavemaker. Sooner or later it stops in a position from which it can't restart (without some help).

I noticed this with the mod aswell, mine was on the wave maker aswell on the 55 I had 2 hooked up with the Ocean Puls Wavemaker. I had used the Sureflows and loved them, before I had issues.

that was the first brand I tried on my wavemaker didn't take long before it started reversing itself went to the older model koralias they started reversing so went with the koralia evo only took them a few months before they started going backwards and and even tho I've been told on the evos that they can't do that unless the front panel with the bumper guard is broken mine are still doing it even thp they aren't broken now I am trying a sicce voyager 4 only been a few months but so far it's good

I don't really mind them running backward from time to time, even more random flow. What I do mind is them not coming on, NO flow!

I used the sureflow modded maxi-jets for a year or so before going to the koralia evolutions. The 1400s work great. I have mine on a controller for 2 min on one min off. They have worked well for the last year or so. Have you tried the koralia evo's H@rry? I rember when I first came to your house. Your tank was the first sps tank I had seen. I loved your row of maxi-jets across the back.

I use the SureFlow mods on the original MaxiJet 1200 and I like them. They have a single design flaw though. The prop is held in place on the shaft with two small plastic splines. I have 8 or them and 3 of them sheared the splines off so the shaft just spins inside the prop without turning it. I looked for replacement impellers/propellers and couldn't find any. I sent an email to Marineland explaining the situation and they sent me 4 new ones, no charge.

I tried the Koralia Evolutions but was not impressed with them. I think the ones I bought were too small.

Harry, how long did they last before shearing off the spline area?

Maybe 3 or 4 weeks. It's the constant starting and stopping that causes a snap that does it. Funny thing though, some of them worked just fine.

I did some research on the mods awhile back..found that although the maxis are timer compatible..the mods are...People claimed the same experiences ad posted here..the main reason I went with EVOs..
