Im getting clam fever. I am going to pick up a maxima clam this afternoon. My tank is 110 gal rr tank that is 30 tall. I have two 175w 15k halides and two 54w t5 actinics. Will this be enough light to maintain on bottom or should i place clam higher? My tank has been set up over a year and parameters are pretty stable. Also wantingto venture into sps. I have several monti caps and birdsnest. Both are growing and doing great. My question is placement. Will i have to keep sps at top.

I think you would just have to gauge it as things go. Start the bottom, acclimate them to the light appropriately, and go from there. Where are your montis and birds best?Birdsnest in my experience like less light usually have them lower in tanks, but I have never had a tank that deep.

. Hers a pic of tank for reference

From what I read, clams can take alot of light(500+ par), but I don't have enough space for them, so I put them on the sand bed where the par is around 100 or so. They look just fine to me. :)

in that deep of a tank, you need to start it on the sand then move it up. i have LED's on my tank which is 24" deep. I noticed a bit of bleaching down the middle of the mantle of my clam so I moved it up. it looks much better now. it is about 1/2 way up in my tank. from looking at your tank, optimum spot shoud be on the rock work on the right side.
