I got this maxima clam yesterday. He’s currently on the sandbed, and I need to move him higher today.

I have one question: my tank is tall, and if I place the clam high while facing him up, I won’t be able to see the mantle. Can I tilt him slightly to the side for viewing?

Also, where would you place him in my tank?

Someone please help me.

I just acquired a small 2" clam at the local frag swap this weekend. I am no expert... and am curious what others will advise.

I did pick up some "clam cradles" made by Brightwell.... and am hoping it latches on to one. Right now, I have it on a rock ledge about 5" off the sandbed. This gives me great visibility to the mantel... but the clam is still young. One challenge I have is large fish that knock it over as they swim by. So far it looks happy and healthy.

Good Luck with yours!

Miami, first and foremost, your tank looks awesome.

I just bought one of these yesterday. Where did you decide to put it? How's it doing? I put mine middle bottom under a light on a rock.

Thank you! And you have an amazing tank!

I will show pictures tonight of how the clam looks. I placed him high, but tilted (his foot wasn’t touching any rocks). The clam was not happy until I placed his foot in contact with the rock and now he’s looking absolutely amazing with new growth!

If you can borrow or rent a par meter that would be great. My Maximas are under around 150 par I know it’s on the lower side but they are doing great with new growth

I put mine both in the middle of my tank, height and width. Gold took within 10 minutes. Has not moved in 3 months. Blue went to the bottom for 2 months. I’d move him once every 2 weeks to see if I could find a better spot for it. Ended up on putting it on a ledge half way between the gold and bottom. He has not moved since. Now his extension is twice what the golds is. Before they were equal.

It makes sense to me under lower light they would extend more to try to get more energy. If you can observe new growth at that location I won’t worry too much.
