Maxima clam placement?!

Hello all
I have recently purchased a maxima clam and it’s ready for placement! From what I’ve researched it should be places in a permanent spot.
I am reading that they should be placed on a rock? And substrate?
So my question is which is it? Or can it be either?

It’s a golden maxima clam!

Depends on your lighting. I have a Maxima under a Gen 3 Radion Pro. I have it at 40% strength. I placed mine up top and it was there for about a week, but then started working it's way down the rock, has settled about half way now for last several months.

Looking at your pic of the tank, I would place it either on the left above that green SPS or on the far right above the red Monti. Start there and just watch it over the next couple weeks.

So I should be putting it on the rocks?
I have a 4 bulb 48inch T5HO ATI bulbs that I supplement with my kessil A160 tuna blue peak intensity at 70% 13 inches off the water

If you just got the clam then leave it on the bottom and let it acclimate to your lighting. Flow matters as well in the clam being happy. Any flat or semi curved rock medium height in the tank will do. Don't get to set on a spot because the clam might not like it there. It will tip or literally move off a spot if unhappy. That's a beautiful clam .

How long should I leave it on the bottom?
Clams are fascinating! Let’s hope it doesn’t move on me! I would like to keep it centered as a show piece in my reef! Thank you!

Give it a week I'd say. When it's happy it will throw out it's byssal threads and attach. Another idea would be to place it on a moveable piece of rock on the bottom and once it attaches you can place it in another spot and see if it's happy there.

I had a flat rock on the sand that I placed mine on when I first got it. Each day I would find it off the rock and on the sand. After the third day I got the hint and left it alone, it seems mine likes it better on the sand.

I picked it up from one of my LFS!
It’s about 3 inches right now! Just a wee little clam!

Well my clam is officially attached! I moved it before I went on vacation to Hawaii, and well its foot or bissels have attached! won’t budge! also very happy with its spot!

I found a piece of live rock that had a little wedged spot that fit my clam perfectly. Running a Gen3pro under it at about 300 max par so far.. also provided a decent amount of flow to it. It has grown in the past months and certainly looks happy.

I've had my 2 clams on the sand for the last year and a half and they seem content and growing, there 5 Kessils over my tank so they must be getting plenty of light or they would surely have died by now.

I do have a bit of a dilemma with my clam right now, my brain coral is rapidly encrusting twards it. Should I be worried? My clam has already attached!
