Yeah I would agree Maxima get too large for that tank. If the clam (crocea) were in the upper part of the tank directly below the light in the hottest spot (par wise) It may be on the low end of ok. Not ideal, but may be just adequate. You will need to keep and eye on alk, cal, mag. I guess like me years ago you will find out if you can keep acros the hard way.

If your light isn’t strong enough for acros it’s probably not strong enough for a clam. Your lfs is wrong. Don’t get a clam unless you’re going to upgrade your lighting.
There is your answer right there. If it's not strong enough for acros, it's not strong enough for a crocea.
For comparison, an $86 Noopsyche K7 Mini is a 60 watt light. In a 14" tall tank, you should be able to achieve 200 PAR on the sand bed at ~50% power. Increase to 60-75% power and you're probably in range for a derasa or squamosa. On the top of the rocks you would be getting 300-350 PAR and getting in range for a maxima or crocea.
That 30 watt light is half as strong. I'd guess 100 PAR on the sand bed where you'd put a derasa, squammie or hippoppus, maybe 150 if you run it at max. Maybe 150-200 on the rocks where you'd put a maxima or crocea. In all cases, I would want more light.

I think @JoJosReef did. I would also say that is most likely directly under the light, if centered on the tank in the middle of the 24" length. The end couple inches 3-4 on both sides would also be in the 100 par or less range too. That is if you are running it at 100%. Honestly if you want a clam you'll need a better light.

Is this your first time keeping a clam? If so, I wouldn't start with a maxima. I know some say crocea are finicky, but I think crocea are a lot hardier than maxima and are more forgiving of water parameters than maxima. Yes, they do require a lot of quality light, but they can be a great choice for smaller tanks, given that you provide them with proper care (quality light). Derasa, squamosa and hippopus are among the hardiest clams to start with, but they grow quickly and can outgrow a nano tank within a couple years, if not sooner.

I'm pretty sure that clam is on the menu for Flounder. Not something I would risk.
The question of whether a Valentini could work is always coming up in my mind, but I wouldn't risk one with a clam.

I would say yes it is gaping.Got this clam yesterday is he ok.. should I move him.. is it gaping???

I'm not an expert, but I will say I would trust the advice here over the LFS, and then do your own research/googling to confirm what people here are saying is true.

How long did you acclimate the clam for? I would orient the clam to face upward towards the light and wait a couple days. This could be from shock, but I don't know the state of the clam before you purchased it. Was the clam shipped or from your LFS? If from your LFS, what did it look like in the store? More information would be helpful here.Got this clam yesterday is he ok.. should I move him.. is it gaping???

Hi.. it was purchased online.. turned up in cold water.. I floated it in my tank for 3 hours adding 20mls of water every 20 mins.. I have emailed the company I bought it from but waiting on reply.. it also had aptasia growing on it..

Do you have an updated pic? What’s the current status?
For acclimating shipped clams, you can temp acclimate, then add enough bag water to cover the clam, then drip acclimate with a steady drip. Depending on pH and salinity, you may need to acclimate for a while. 20mL every 20 minutes does nothing to acclimate and virtually changes nothing unless you’re doing this for 12 hours? It’s probably in shock, hopefully it was healthy enough to recover? Invertebrates need more delicate acclimation procedures, especially clams.

It looks like there is no new growth on the shell, looks like coraline has grown over the shell.Got this clam yesterday is he ok.. should I move him.. is it gaping???
If you've had the clam only one day, but it looks like something was wrong with it before. You should advise the vendor
