So the other day i bought a blue maxima for $40 at my LFS. It was an impulse buy and honestly dont know much about clams other than they like light and eat up calcium. Can someone give me the run down? Its also small, maybe 2".

I can't edit my post but another question: I was told to just put it in the sand and let it do what it wants. I have a hard time believing this. I thought most clams like to be attatched onto something, not just in the sand. Also, do they need to be light acclimated Any and all help on what to do with the little guy is greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the addiction hahaha!

Can you look through the stickies at the top of the forum for clam keeping info?

Maxima's like to be up on the rocks, but the small one's don't like being handled much so I'd leave it on the sand for a week or so and then move it to where you may think it would like to settle in.

Ya ya ya i can read the **** stickies!! hahaha I just didn't feel like searching around. I've been reading up on it a little tho. As far as feeding them goes, whats the best way to go about that? I have oyster feast and marine snow, will this stuff work? Should i just put some in water with a turkey baster and "dust" around it?

What if I can't get a hold of live phyto for a week? The maxima i picked up is SMALL prolly an inch and a half, max 2 inches.

I have never fed my tank live phyto and had 4 of these little maximas. The smallest was 3/4 of an inch.

Oh ok thanks both of you for the input. When i got it i just put it in the sand with nothing for it to put its foot to. So last night i lifted him and stuck a rock under him and the sand. Now hes on his side with the foot attached. Should I just leave him alone or try to get him upright?

You should probably leave him alone. I've heard of people putting some substrate in a small container and then placing the clam in it in their tank.

If it is attached do not move it. These little guys need to be left alone and let them do their thing. It is good that it is attached to the rock. If it feels that it needs to move it has the ability to do so. Congrats on the little maxima :)
