Need some help guys, I picked up a pretty big clam at the Lansing swap. I’d say it’s about 6” and VERY responsive. It’s been a week and yet it’s barely open, it wasn’t open at the show much either but none of the clams I looked at were open much. I have checked for snails, burped and have no fish in my tank to pester. My levels are as follows. Alk 9.5 nitrates 5 Po4 .1-.2 cal 400 and mag 1400. Should I FW dip? Is it just adjusting? My 3” is wide open and healthy as can be.

I wouldn't freshwater dip at this time. Try adding GAC for now. I don't see any signs of pinched mantle so I think a dip might do more harm than good. If you decide to dip then make sure you read up on the procedure. Never purchase a clam that doesn't extend its mantle or has poor reaction to shadows. The mantle seems retracted but it's not gaping yet. At this point I'd keep a close eye on it.

Yep, no on the dip, and yes for the carbon. I'm sure that it's just acclimation stress right now. The carbon is gonna help prevent anything that it caught from getting worse.

So at what point do I rule out acclimation stress? Still open the same amount. Thanks
