While I would like my new Maxima to sit on the sand, I don't know if it will get enough PAR. The hardest part for me, in the past, has been finding the right spot for rock boring clams. Spots that I think would cradle the clam, normally are too tight so the shell doesn't have room to fully open, or even allow for growth for that matter. How do you place clams on rockwork, taking into consideration its' eventual large size? I an provide plenty of growth space on the substrate, but I am not sure about up on the rockwork. Please post pics of rock mounted clams :)

IME clams will go where they want to go. (parameters & lighting aside) When they pucker up quick there's a lot of force there, they move, fall, poop etc. If the substrate is out, just find a place on the rocks where there not pinned in so to say, but they have some wiggle room. If all is good they should hunker down with that byssal gland/threads and be happy. GL.

i have a large derasa, 7-8" that sits in the sand and wiggles a lot. i just got two maximas and sat them on a clam shell in the sand. once they attach, i glue the shell to the rock work where i want them to go. much easier in attaching them straight to rockwork. i feel your frustration on that one. on the shell they can also be moved if need be.
