I would like to add 2 more 24w T5 bulbs over my tank. They only way that I think I can get them in would be to have them 13 inches off the water. With that height, will there be any added benefit from adding the lights? should I look up adding VHOs instead.
Current setup
40br
250w MH a little off centered
2x24w T5 (fiji purple and actinic +)

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I think you're fine with your current setup...

Really. That means alot coming from you. I mean, you overkill on light all the time. Thanks

That being said, if it were my setup, I'd find a way to fit those other 2 T5's in there... :)

I am thinking going 4 bulb vho with IceCap or ARO ballasts instead. 2 bulbs 6 inches off the water and 2 bulbs 13 inches or so off the water. 300w total added lighting. 3 bulbs URI super actinics and 1 bulb Aquasun 10k. Thoughts????

I like the pop you get with VHO super actinics better... T5's give you more color options and are more energy efficient and will also put off more par with good reflectors, and will last you longer...

Think I will keep my current setup. I am budgeting $400 for my tank for the rest of the year. Lets see how that works out.

over my 40br i have a 250watt radium and then 4x 36" overdriven t5's... they are about 13" off the water, probably more... they increased my par in the sandbed to about 550 from 450

What reflector do you have for you MH?? Can you describe your setup that allows you to put that much light over your tank?? I don't think I can put 4 36" T5 bulbs and my LumenArc mini in my canopy. I sure want to.
