Hey all,
Looking to add some flow to my 120G it’s the 5 ft tank dimension. LPS dominant looking to add some SPS but right now only have 2 Sicce x stream pumps at 100% and not cutting it. What is your reviews on the maxpect gyre pumps? From what I’m reading people say they crap out pretty quickly and are not worth the money.
Looking at the 4K Jump or the newer xf350.
Thank you

I have the maxpect xf330s and xf350s. Love them.
The xf330s are 2 years old now and have been in use on a 4’ long 65 gallon tank. I ran them at 50-60% opposite each other in random. Plenty of flow!
The xf350s are brand new and on opposite ends of a 6’ long 180 gallon tank. I have them on 20%. And now have my 330s on same tank on back glass at 20%.

Personally I would recommend the xf330s for your size of tank.
I think they clean easily and work great.

Been using an xf330 opposite an xf350 (and two 2 varios 4’s) off a wave engine for years, upgraded from the 250’s and native controller. The bearings do wear out, and lots of parts (350’s have less), but I’m a fan.
WE much easier to program, but the new cloud controller look’s improved.
I still see the older versions at bargain prices. I’d go that route to save money.
oO splurge and enjoy!! Either way, win-win.
I’m hoping to be able to buy the newer deflectors

BRS currently has the XF330 and 350 on sale. Was going to go with a Jump 2k but went with the XF330 for $6 more.

Thank you! I posted a picture in the thread of the ones I’m looking at is that what you are recommending?

Yes, that’s the 330.
I have a 330 opposite a 350, 60 inches wide, 115gal. Don’t use them full speed, plenty of flow. I think 2 330’s would be fine, especially LPS dominant.
the controller is very capable of making elaborate schedules, but it’s not user friendly. It took some effort, but I was finally able to exploit it very well.
If you’ve ever thought about a wave engine I highly recommend. One power brick runs everything and easier to program.

Agree what other has said. I have 2 XF-250 on my 6 feet and love them.

I am in the fence if i buy the XF-330 or XF-350 from BRS but concerned that the availability to get parts for them will be difficult. I have been in contact several months with Coralvue in order to get the cages and they are back ordered.

That concern got me thinking if i should get the new ones instead. Any feedback is appreciated.

Yes. I think the cloud looks cool and the flow diverting things are neat, but I’d get those while on sale. I recommend the 330 because I think it’s great for your size tank. The 350s move ALOT of water and will likely be too much.

Used XF330's on my 5'. Plenty of flow at 50-60%. Needs cleaned often to keep performance high.

I feel like the parts are identical on the 300 series except the flow things and new cloud controller. I even saw where they are compatible with each other and the cloud controller can be an upgrade and the flow guards will likely be available also.

They're fine, but I don't think there's anything they provide that makes the extra maitnenance/troubleshooting typically required worth it. It's just inherent that the long impeller shape will wobble and wear out bearings and make them more susceptible to damage if anything finds its way in. IMO the octopulses are some of the best powerheads on the market.

With respect to the bearings wearing out, and this is purely speculation, I think that the cage alignment plays a part. On the 4k at least, they are a push fit and during installation or if rotating for flow adjustment its easy for the cages to get misaligned. The rotors will still turn but I can imagine that the bushes at at the cage ends are going to be dragging on the shafts.

I have used Gyres since they came out and never had a bearing wear out. I am unfamiliar with the new web-based interface. I use the Hydros Wave Engine and love it and the Gyres. I bought the Gyres without the controllers and power supplies. Turned out to be less expensive with fewer wires and only one power supply for all 4 pumps.

I just replaced two 3 year old Neptune Wavs with two XF330s, mainly due the flow control nozzles. I am now able to go above and below, left and right of SPS colonies without blasting them directly. The new cloud controller gives you a lot of preset flow patterns. Also like the ease of removing and and reinserting them into the tank, while the dryside magnet stays stuck to the back. Only downside so far is the complete lack of instructions. Nothing comes with it and you have to do some digging online to find what all the symbols and flow patters mean. Haven't had to clean them yet so can't comment on that.

Thanks I ordered them just now!

Awesome! I hope you like them. I do! One trick (laziness) is every week or so I will set them to 100% reverse flow for a min and it would dislodge any gunk or food in the propellers.
Also, just know that the outside magnets are like glue!! Super tough to move. If you don’t want them to stick, try leaving the protective plastic on the magnet or place something thin like tissue paper between it and the glass. At least until you decide your happy with placement.
