Maxpect Xf350 Ce corroded after 6 months

So BCUK the distributor for maxspect here in the uk says this isn't covered under warranty because it's general wear and tear. So basically they are saying it's expected to just disintegrate after 6 months of use due to wear and tear haha. Surely it's a design issue that the environment it's designed to be used in kills it after 6 months!

Dang - will scratch these off my list. I really liked their directional control but not worth it if they don't last.

I’ve been using the 330s for 4 years now and the 350s for going on two years with no issues. Stinks that you have this happening though.

I do have another 4 running which are still working, although it's got me worried for how long now. Its annoying as i was going to get another one but cant trust it now.
It could be my bad luck but I think the issue is bad distributors! Trying to snake out of their responsibilities. By saying it's a wear and tear part and not covered they are themselves suggesting it's normal and not a design fault haha.

Did this have any affect your water parameters or add any contaminants that you noticed? Your Maxspect''s magnet just looks like it was dissolving. lol

I'm sure the magnet quality on the impellers of our equipment will vary at times. I have a H.O.T Magnum 250 filter that I used to filter a 20 gallon tank. It still works and was used on that tank for over 20 years.

As to worry or not you have 4 others so can see how they are wearing during your next clean cycle. How are you cleaning them?

I probably take them out every 3 weeks or so to clean but don't usually take out the shafts. Have probably taken them out once in 6 months. Usually just the cages and rotars and scrub in fresh water. Although that's likely to change now haha

Thanks for the reply. So that is the motor block magnet? Upon first glance it would look like damage from vinegar. At least that is what crossed my mind.

I have the XF350's but not in use at the moment. I do, however, have XF280's that are 4 or 5 years old and not experienced this. As you I typically do not remove the motor block other than maybe once a year or 18 months. I soak mine in citric acid as the blade and cages can get a pretty solid layer of film and this makes it easier to clean.

Hopefully that is just a small defect which caused the problem and not a design issue. Especially since you have others deployed.

Yeah thats the main motor magnet. For sure yeah, I think it's the algae and slime on the cages and blades which slow them down just cleaning those always seems to make them speed back up again. Hopefully your right really.
It's weird though it fused to the motor housing in the space of an hour aswell! It was running untill I turned it off for an hour to add a nem. Then when I turned them back on it was just solid in the housing with no movement whatsoever and crumbled when I took it apart. Really odd.
