I decided to just start one thread for future and present tanks. I currently have a 50g running. It has been over run with aipstasia warranting a breakdown and restart, among other problems I have with the tank. I got a 20L at Petco and will be turning that into my new reef tank. All the corals and fish in the 50g will be transferred over. Once the transfer in done, the 50g will be setup as a fowlr. I'm not sure if fowlr is the right word because I may throw some weedy corals in it, but fish will be the priority. I enjoy fish more than corals so that is where my attention is going to be focused. I have some other tanks in the pipeline that will come to life once I get these 2 tanks setup and running.

Plans for the 20L
I have a vision for this tank that is similar to Brad's natural reef and Hey's tank from nano reef. Simplicity is key and utilize equipment I already have. I want to make a transition from brightly lit to dim lighting. I have 2 coral compulsion bulbs that I plan to use on the main reef but am looking for a small blue LED bulb to light the dim side. I want the dim side to be lit like a couple of the nps tanks on here. If this makes any sense lol. I'm not going to pack it full of frags I like the look of bigger, fuller colonies. I may pick up a few more frags but I'll just let what I have grow out. This will be a sumpless and skimmerless tank and will rely on water changes. I go back to work tomorrow so there won't be a whole lot of progress until my next weekend, when I can start the stand and canopy.

This post is long enough lol but I will keep posting details and updates as they come up. Any and all ideas are welcome including new tank ideas;)

I'm in here man. Scribed and ready

Ah, i meant to quote that post....ruined it^^

The planned stocking for the 20L is a royal Gramma, lawnmower blenny, diamond goby, and a firefish. The dim part of the tank will be exclusively for the royal Gramma. I'm still debating about the diamond goby because I'm not sure if there will be enough sand for him. I may just go with a pygmy wrasse. I have an ac70 laying around that will probably go on the tank along with another small power head. Doing some research on an ATO for this tank, may go with the smart micro. Not really sure if there is a "better" style ATO for a sumpless tank. Suggestions?

I'm still pretty undecided exactly what to do with the 50g. Since the emphasis is fish a ton of options open up for me. Im feeling that MTS kick in lol. Puffer fish is my favorite species of fish so I may throw a valentini in there with a flame angel or do some dwarf lions. I would appreciate some stocking suggestions for this tank. Tank dims are 36x18x18. I do plan on throwing some pulsing Xenia in there and just let it dominate the rock work. I think a Xenia dominated tank looks cool, will give it movement, and will help with nutrients. I already have black boxes on the tank which I'll reuse and a wp-25. The tank is drilled with a sump. I have an sca301 skimmer I may reuse or upgrade. Depends how much nutrient control I need. Thought about trying an ATS as well.

Do you think a 48" 4 bulb t5 fixture would be fine over a 125g with only pulsing Xenia?

This is the scape I'm probably going to go with. Just going to keep it simple and let my corals fill it in. They need room to grow[emoji1]

That's about 15 lbs of rock. I have a koralina 240 and an ac70 I plan on using. Not sure if this will be enough flow will have to see what it looks like when I set it up. Working on the stand for it, should be wet Tuesday night.

I'm thinking of going t5 on the 20L. Do you think I would be okay with just 2 bulbs or do I need 4. Not doing any sps.

Well it's wet and cloudy lol. I got another powerhead showing up tomorrow. I'll be working on the canopy and lighting next. Decided to stick with the coral compulsion bulbs, for now. Tank has been dosed with biospira.

Do you think an ai prime hd with the 12" goose neck would cover my tank?
My rocks are placed towards the middle, the coverage needed would only be 22" wide.
